FULL CHAPTER TO CHAPTER SUMMARY OF INDEPENDENCE CHAPTER 1 Tayo is the first Nigeria to receive a scholarship to study at Balliol College, Oxford. He visits his relatives in the village of Ibadan before travelling the next day to uncle kayode’s house, another relative in Lagos. On the day he sets to sail, his parents, headmaster, some of his teachers and other Lagos-based relatives stands at the Lagos port to bid him goodbye.
